Microneedling is a relatively new technology that is used to rejuvenate the skin and improve the skin surface by reducing fine lines, expression lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, and acne scars. The concept of Microneedling is based on the skins natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical injury such as cuts, burns and other abrasions. As the Microneedling device is moved across the skin, pin point punctures are made to create very minor micro injuries. In response to the perceived injury a cascade of growth factors are released, which in turn triggers new collagen synthesis. This process has two major benefits – it effectively stimulates collagen formation and provides clear channel for topical serums and growth factors to be absorbed through the surface of the skin.

Blood plasma that has been enriched with platelets which in the event of injury release several different growth factors and other cytokines to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting to repair the damaged area.
Not all Microneedling devices are created equal. The device used at WSTPSC delivers Radiofrequency (RF) pulses in the targeted tissues. The heat generated by RF produces a healing response that causes collagen production and remodeling, allowing the skin to thicken and adhere closer to the muscular structure of the body.
The sensation of Microneedling is uncomfortable particularly in areas of bony prominence and where the skin is thinner around the eyes. A topical anesthetic is applied to make the procedure more comfortable 1 hour prior to the treatment. Immediately following the procedure the skin will feel tight, dry, swollen, and sensitive to the touch. It will also look and feel sunburned. The sensitivity and redness will diminish significantly within 24 hours.
It depends on the treatment area but typically it is one hour for preparation and up to 60 minutes for treatment.
You will see results after your first treatment but THREE treatments are recommended (4 weeks apart) for your overall expected results. Maintenance treatments may also be recommended in some cases.
While there is no specific downtime some patients do experience a light sunburned appearance for 24-48 hours following the procedure. We recommend you avoid exercise and sun exposure for 3 days following your procedure.
